Michel and Dominique Bouche are fifth generation winemakers and also first cousins of somMailier’s founder, Laurent Yung. Their family bought this sixty-acre domain in 1965, where red, white, and rosé wines were produced. At a wine sale in 2013, Michel Bouche discovered a bottle of 1938 Château de Mauves. The label mentioned “Premier Cru de Graves”, which means first growth. Michel and Dominique were proud of the past prestige of their Château and understood the challenge that was put to them!
The picking and transport of the grapes are done swiftly, as this variety is fragile and thin-skinned. The vinification of this white wine is carefully supervised in temperature-controlled vats to obtain the fresh floral taste, and the pale gold greenish hue that are distinctive of the Semillon variety. Although every vintage is slightly different, Dominique and Michel believe it is important to maintain this specificity and enjoy the surprise every year brings.
