The wine story
The amazing Château de Pizay dates back to 1030, and so remained in the Pizay family for 9 centuries, until 1916. Then it was sold several times and today belongs to an insurance company.
They produce 3 crus: Morgon, Régnié, Brouilly, and Beaujolais red, white and rosés ….400.000 bottles every year.
Since 1981, it has become the largest estate in Beaujolais with five vineyards covering more than 205 acres. Besides the domain winery, there is a four-star hotel with spa and restaurant where visitors are welcome for an educational tasting experience.
This wine comes from a plot of sandy silty soil where the vines are 57-year-old.
It matures for six months in vats, 60% in barrels, before blending and bottling.
