The Wine

The domain has been in the same family for generations…it started in 1764 and the château as it is today was built in 1880. The present owners are the Garde and Lasserre families, in association.

This is the second wine of the Clos René, well known for its finesse and elegance. Because of the predominance of Merlot in the assemblage, and the terroir, which is mostly gravel and sand with iron deposits, Pomerol can be drunk young, even if ageing is good for it and it can be kept for up to 20 years for the best vintages.

The wine is made in the local tradition: hand picking, destemming, fermentation in cement vats with temperature control, and ageing in oak barrels for 18 months.

The wine has a dark purple color typical of Pomerol.
