The wine story

Château Gaudin is in a privileged setting neighboring several Médoc prestigious domains like La Tour and Lynch Bages, found on the gravelly hills around the village of Pauillac. Bought by grandfather Edouard in 1901, the property is currently run by Stephane Capdevielle and his son Adrien. Adrien is the fifth generation of the family to work on the domain. Originally it was only ten acres but has been enlarged to 27 acres today. The vines are approximately 45 years old. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are mostly grown here but other local varieties are grown as well such as Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmenère. Traditional wine making techniques are used with hand picking, careful sorting, fermentation in concrete vats and maturing in oak barrels for eighteen months.

The Region

Pauillac is a village in Médoc, situated on the Gironde estuary between Bordeaux and the Atlantic Ocean. Médoc has a distinctive microclimate and gravelly soil transported by the river over centuries. The Bordeaux area can either be very hot or too wet. However, the ocean, soil and the many pine forests protect the vineyards from excessive climate variations. Many world famous wines are produced in Médoc.
