Château Jolys 2018 – Jurancon
Jurançon wine is usually best known as a sweet white wine, loved by King Henri the fourth, born in the area in the 16th century. Yet the local varieties, Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng produce a lot of sugar and enough acidity to make an excellent dry white wine. Production was threatened in the fifties when many farmers abandoned the vineyards for crops they considered more profitable and less time consuming. Fascinated by the aromatic properties of these grapes, Pierre-Yves Latrille, a renowned agronomist, believed in their potential. He bought Château Jolys in 1958 and invested in an ambitious plantation project of 70 acres of Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng on virgin lands, going against the trend of the time as a true visionary. Today his grand-daughters Claire and Camille keep building up the reputation of the appellation. “We want our wines to bring people together and create beautiful moments of sharing, just like our grand-father did…”
After a traditional vinification in temperature controlled vats, the wine is kept on fine lees to enhance the flavors. The wine has a unique light golden color.
