Description
La Genestière is a charming provincial house overlooking a lovely pond. Formerly a silkworm farm and silk mill, it turned to wine making in 1930. The subsequent owners were successful and bought several domains in the area in Cotes du Rhône and Chateauneuf du Pape. The estate is run by Christian Latouche, who owns 450 acres of vineyards in different appellations. The wines have an excellent reputation. Vines for this wine are about 40 years old. The soil composition is clay and limestone with large pebbles over a coarse layer of sand. Vinification is performed according to tradition, but with the use of modern equipment like temperature-controlled fermentation vats. Cold maceration for the Syrah, and some rack and return for the Grenache and Mourvedre. Only part of the wine is kept in oak barrels to retain the fruity taste as this wine has enough tannins of its own. Dark red in color, powerful and aromatic but with elegant freshness.
