The wine story
Near the village of Aghione on the Costa Serena, on the western side of the beautiful Mediterranean island of Corsica, the ancient Vetriccie domain was bought by the Barcelo family in 1966. The Barcelo family have made wine for four generations. Today, it is run by Daniel Barcelo.
On 120 hectares, the domain produces high quality red, white and rosé wines, using local grape varieties best adapted to the climate and soil. These varieties are also grown in Italy, sometimes with different names. For instance, The Niellucio is called San Giovese and used in Chianti. The Sciacarello comes from Toscany. That is because Corsica was Italian and only became French in 1789.
For this wine, harvesting is done every day for ten days, picking only the matured grapes. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in controlled temperature.
Favorite Pairing
Goat or ewe cheese, red meat like beef or lamb, will pair well with this wine. Try also pasta dishes and Italian recipes with plenty of herbs, onions, garlic and oregano.
