The story of Cazelles Verdier goes that an ancestor of the Verdier Family, named Courtès, went on foot to Versailles asking to speak to the French king, Louis XVI. Courtès was looking to receive a reduction in taxes, which he granted! He then came back to Saint-Nazaire as a champion. The Verdier family has been producing
wine in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, in the south of France, since 1743. Now, his heir, Jean Paul Verdier, in addition to creating a special red vintage named after his ancestor Courtès, produces a supple Chardonnay named “Les Pierres qui Chantent” meaning the “singing rocks.” Jean Paul Verdier, who has taken over the family business from his mother in 1980, is currently producing this 100% Chardonnay wine on over 2 hectares; which gives a very limited yield and makes it almost impossible to find outside of France. “Les Pierres qui Chantent” 2015 was unusually aged in Acacia woods, giving it a woody and
spicy, yet not oaky flavor.
