Description
DOMAINE MIRAMONT- AOC VACQUEYRAS
Grape varieties: 49% grenache, 37% Syrah, 11% Mourvedre, 3% Cinsault
The wine story
Miramont has belonged to the Chassillan family since 1933. It is a 35-acre property of which 25 acres are in the Vacqueyras appellation. Michel, third generation winemaker uses biodynamic techniques. The soil of the vineyard is left grassy to improve biodiversity and the soil structure. The vines are managed carefully to respect their natural cycle without using chemicals and only native yeasts are used during fermentation.
The vineyards are on a plateau called les Guarrigues de Sarrians near a picturesque Provencal village. The topsoil consists of limestone pebbles and coarse sand on brown clay giving the wine a complex aromatic structure. The pebbles keep the warmth of the sun, and the clay keeps some moisture in the soil during the very hot Provencal Summers.
Favorite Pairing
This is a sunny wine that will pair well with Mediterranean cuisine like roasted lamb leg with herbs or farm chicken with black olives and vegetables dishes. It will also do well with Mexican recipes and spicy dishes.
The Region
Vacqueyras is part of the Côtes du Rhône region in the South of the Rhône valley. It is situated on the left bank of the river between the old Roman cities of Carpentras and Orange. Vineyards, olive groves and fruit orchards are found here. The climate and soil are ideal. Many different local grape varieties are blended according to the winemaker’s taste, so every wine is unique.
