Description
The wine story
This large and very ancient domain, more than 60 acres, belongs to 800 co-owners. The group ”vignerons ardechois” organized the purchase and renovations by crowdfunding: it took a year to build a new cellar and winery and update the equipment. The old buildings have been repaired to welcome visitors or for special events. The domain is also a bird sanctuary, being in a very preserved environment. The purpose was to create a place where wine makers could learn organic farming from vineyard to cellar, and a research center to experiment the use of old Mediterranean grape varieties better adapted to global warming.
The different varieties grown by the domain are vinified separately to obtain the best assemblage, and the yield is limited. For this wine, the grapes were picked at dawn and gently pressed, after a slow fermentation it was aged on lees for 6 months and received a gold medal.
Favorite Pairing
As an aperitif, or with white fish, crayfish gratin, ceviche and camarones
The Region
Ardèche is a department and a river in the south of France, on the right bank of the Rhone Valley. It is also a great tourist destination in the summer because of the beautiful Gorges de l’Ardèche, a canyon where canoeing is very popular. The vineyards are on the slopes overlooking the river. The warm and dry climate and the local mistral wind are excellent for ripe and healthy grapes. Learn more about this region at: Sommailier.com/wineregions
